Grenada, the seat of
Grenada County, is on the Yalobusha River where the Delta and Hill
Country meet. It is served by State Highways 8, 333, US Highway 51,
and I-55, about 93 miles south of Memphis, TN.
Grenada County was
formed in 1879 from lands taken from Carroll, Choctaw, Tallahatchie
and Yalobusha counties. The city of Grenada was the largest town among
the 4 counties which formed Grenada County and the natural choice to
serve as the new county's seat.
Grenada experiences a noticeable change of seasons, but temperatures
remain mild and pleasant year-round.
Camp McCain is a 13,000-acre National Guard Training
Site in Grenada County. It is a training area for armor,
artillery and other units. Camp McCain provides an
economic impact of some $8 million annually and serves
as an AT training site for additional soldiers.
